Weathering heights: determination and craftsmanship in Saanenland

As the rain tapped persistently on the windows and clouds lingered over Saanenland, the past month has seen many of us indoors, watching the French Open on TV and engaging in countless discussions on the balcony, hoping for a glimpse of sunshine. The weather may have kept us from our usual outdoor activities, but it hasn’t dampened our spirits.

I’ve observed the children on our street making the most of every dry spell between showers. With determination etched on their faces, they ventured out, their resolve unshaken by the rain. This resilience will serve them well as they grow into adulthood.

In this issue, we celebrate a similar determination, one that unfolds beautifully in the craftsmanship of our local artisans. We dive into the intricate details of the work by our chefs, cheesemakers, and skilled craftsmen in the valley. Their dedication to their craft is nothing short of impressive.

From top-tier restaurants to ambitious young entrepreneurs offering a variety of culinary experiences, the common thread is an unwavering commitment to quality. Take, for example, our cheese fondue served at an altitude of 2000 meters by Lake Sanetsch. The engagement and ingenuity displayed here are world-class.

This summer, we will also explore the many exciting architectural projects simmering in the background. There is plenty to delve into, not to mention the numerous sports events taking place both locally and internationally. Whether you’re into outdoor or indoor activities, there’s something for everyone.

It may not have been one of the sunniest early summers in history, but we begin the season in majestic green.

In these pages, we hope to inspire you to embrace the spirit of determination and the beauty of craftsmanship that defines our community. Despite the weather, something remarkable is always happening in Saanenland. Let’s make the most of this summer, rain or shine.
