30.08.2024 Local News, Events, Local News, Gstaad LivingThe ninth edition of the Gstaad Züglete is Saturday, 31st of August.
Experience the rich tradition of the Gstaad Züglete, where local farmers lead their livestock through the heart of Gstaad's promenade. This beloved event, now in its ninth year, is scheduled for Saturday, 31 August. It’s a community-driven celebration, made possible by the collaborative efforts of every business in Gstaad, supported by four key organizations: the Saanenland Agricultural Association, the Gstaad-Saanenland Hoteliers' Association, the Saanenland Trade Association, and the Gstaad village organization.
The festivities kick off around 9:30 AM with the ‘Ylüte’ performance by the Trechlerclub Schönried. The Gstaad promenade will be alive with market stalls, demonstrations, tastings, and musical performances, offering a delightful experience for all attendees. Young visitors will surely enjoy the bouncy castle (weather permitting), face painting, and a petting zoo featuring the popular chicken bingo in Ober-Gstaad. The event welcomes guests of all ages.
The processions begin at approximately 10:00 AM, with the first groups passing through the village every 40 minutes. These authentic processions showcase farmers and their animals who have already travelled several hours from alpine pastures before reaching the promenade. Each cow is adorned with a unique flower crown, adding a vibrant and festive touch to the procession. These beautifully crafted crowns, made from various local flowers, enhance the traditional charm of the Gstaad Züglete and symbolize the celebration of the season's harvest and the return of the livestock from the alpine pastures. The sight of these cows, proudly wearing their colourful floral adornments, adds a special elegance to the event, making it a memorable experience for all who attend.
There will be a lunch break from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, during which attendees can enjoy the ‘Matinée des Jeunes Etoiles VIII’ concert, part of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy, held at Kapälli Gstaad. Afterwards, the processions will resume, continuing at 40-minute intervals.
The official festivities conclude around 5:00 PM, but visitors are encouraged to linger and enjoy the evening at their leisure in any of the village's restaurants. The Gstaad Züglete will take place rain or shine, and the organizers look forward to welcoming many visitors. Festival badges, available for purchase in the village, serve as a voluntary contribution to support the event.
