Last Call at the Garage!

  31.07.2024 Arts & Culture

In the only remaining garden at the Promenade in Gstaad, in the garden of the Chalet Naegeli, you may have noticed a cosy small wooden house. It was a former garage of the photographer Jacques Naegeli, where he used to park his Jaguar. Barely large enough for a modern car, it has been repurposed as a project space showing local artists or artists connected to the Saanenland region. Garage Naegeli also hosts events dedicated to classic cars and organises open-air movie nights.

The exhibition by Juliette Somnolet, a young French-American artist partly based in Château d’Oex, is open until the end of July.

Juliette is presenting an installation of sculptures and drawings made out of organic materials found in Saannenland. The artist explores the region's materials and textures of wood-burnt branches and ceramics burnished in locally harvested beeswax. “The pieces are poetic offshoots that create their own reinvented ecosystem, trickling over the obsolete and springing forth new life in their assembly. It’s an ode to nature's transformational abilities”.
