A Life of Passion and Dedication

Adrian Ruch, a longtime sports journalist for BZ Berner Zeitung, Bund, Tages-Anzeiger, and SonntagsZeitung, lived by the motto, “A day without a smile is a lost day.” For over 30 years, his insightful, fair, and stylistically refined reporting shaped sports coverage in Switzerland, always focusing on hope and strength rather than sensationalism.

Starting his career in 1989, Adrian reported on countless major events, including five Olympic Games, and closely followed the careers of notable athletes like Roger Federer—his love for sports extended beyond journalism.

In 2009, he shifted focus to covering ice hockey and became a dedicated chronicler of SC Bern's success, witnessing multiple championship victories. His commitment and attention to detail earned him the respect of colleagues and athletes alike.

In 2021, Adrian took on a new challenge as the manager of Gstaad-Saanenland Golf Club while continuing to contribute as a freelance journalist. Alongside his professional work, he nurtured a passion for photography, particularly wildlife, which he pursued during safaris.

Adrian will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his craft, and the positive spirit he brought to all aspects of life, writes former colleague Philipp Rindlisbacher in Berner Zeitung online.
