Gstaad New Year Music Festival

  31.12.2024 Arts & Culture

The 19th edition of the Gstaad New Year Music Festival, running from 27 December to 11 January, once again promises a dazzling array of international stars and rising talents, all within a warm and intimate setting.

Where else but in the Bernese Oberland and Pays d’Enhaut can you experience world-class artists like Elina Garanca and Jonathan Tetelman (28.12) or Sonya Yoncheva (2.1) performing in the modest yet charming Saanen church? The enchantment continues with a candlelit performance by Les Arts Florissants, who will bring their baroque songs to Lauenen on 30.12 – an experience of pure magic.

With 22 concerts on the programme, it’s impossible to list them all, but highlights abound. The Rougemont church will host a stellar line-up of sopranos, featuring the divine Rosa Feola on 27.12, Dima Bawab on 29.12, Lise Davidsen on 3.1 (performing alongside tenor Freddie De Tommaso), and the queen of Bel Canto, Golda Schulz, on 5.1. The spellbinding Maria Te r e s a Leva will grace Lauenen on 6.1, adding yet another gem to this treasure trove of performances.

The festival also dedicates over a week to showcasing young talent. Expect to be captivated by violinist Elias David Moncado (29.12), winner of the Alberto Lysy International Competition, and the virtuosity of pianist Nino Kupreishvili on 8.01.

As a grand finale, the festival shifts into a jazzy groove, closing with two concerts on 10 and 11.01 featuring the iconic Rhapsody in Blue. It’s a fitting way to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one – with music!
