Buying wine at auction: a pleasure or an investment?

Vincent Noirmain, Piguet’s wine and spirits specialist, would say both! It’s an opportunity to buy the finest prestigious wines or to discover more niche winemakers.

The premiers grands crus classés of Bordeaux always attract wine connoisseurs, who might, for example, have fun adding a vertical* to their cellar, leading to some fantastic wine-tasting. If these wines are not drunk immediately, they appreciate in value and are a good alternative investment. This is particularly true of Petrus, Cheval Blanc, and Lafite-Rothschild, along with the extremely rare bottles from the Domaine de la Romanée Conti.

Buying at auction means being in contact with the department’s specialist, who will give you all sorts of information and tips on the wines, how to store them and their vintage.

Bidding online and following the action right up until the last second is a thrill in itself!

In September, Piguet will be offering a range of Bordeaux premiers grands crus, as well as some fine Italian and Spanish appellations. A selection of wines from the New World – California and Argentina – provide a great opportunity to treat your taste buds to new flavours. Vincent Noirmain and Bernard Piguet are happy to advise you on your purchases or to appraise the wines you wish to offer for sale.
