Once more, Gstaad will host an extraordinary musical event, the 3rd Alberto Lysy International Violin Competition, from October 18th to 20th, 2024. This prestigious competition, held in honour of the late great violinist Alberto Lysy, provides a platform for rising violin stars from around the world to showcase their talent. The event is organised in collaboration with the Menuhin Center, and receives support from the Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy, the Gstaad New Year Music Festival, Festival "Le bois qui chante," Kultur Region Alliance Culturelle, and Hotel Gstaaderhof.
A PRIZED OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG VIOLINISTS
The winner of the competition will be awarded a remarkable prize – a four-year loan of a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin. This rare and exceptional instrument offers the recipient a unique chance to enhance their artistry. The competition’s jury is composed of internationally acclaimed musicians and educators:
- Adelina Oprean — Violin Professor at the Music Academy Basel
- Philippe Graffin — Concert Violinist and Professor at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris and Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel
- Oleg Kaskiv — Musical Director and Violin Professor at the International Menuhin Music Academy
- Pablo de Naveran — Chamber Music Professor at International Menuhin Music Academy
- Lukas Wittermann — Managing Director of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy
AN INVITATION TO THE PUBLIC
The competition is open to the public, with “free entry” to all rounds. Whether you're a classical music aficionado or simply curious about the event, it offers a unique opportunity to witness some of the brightest young talents in the violin world.
COMPETITION TIMETABLE
- 1st Round: Friday, October 18th
- 09:00–12:30 | 13:30–16:00 | 16:30–19:00
- Semifinal: Saturday, October 19th
- 14:00–16:30 | 17:00–20:00
- Final: Sunday, October 20th
- 15:00–19:00
On the final day, the audience will also have a chance to participate by voting for their favourite performer to receive the Audience Award. Additionally, the winner will perform in the 2025 Gstaad Menuhin Festival, as part of the prestigious Jeunes Etoiles series.
