Touring skier died in accident
18.02.2022 Local NewsOn Saturday, 29 January at around 12.05pm, the Bern cantonal police received a report that a person had fallen from the Oldehore in Gsteig. The rescue teams, including a member of the Swiss Alpine Rescue, were immediately alerted and dispatched by an Air-Glaciers helicopter. They were able to locate the man but could only ascertain his death.
According to the information available so far, a man and a companion had initially set off on foot from the summit of Oldehore. They were then descending on touring skis when the man slipped for reasons that have yet to be clarified and fell several hundred metres.
The deceased is a 52-year-old Frenchman. His companion was not injured.
