The Goldenpass route from Interlaken to Montreux is popular with tourists. So far, they have always had to change trains in Zweisimmen. The reaseon for this is that the MOB, which serves between Zweisimmen and Montreux, has a different gauge than the majority of the train network in Switzerland. With especially adapted trains and a gauge changer in Zweisimmen, tourists will be able to make the journey without interruption in the future.

Commuters who make the journey from Gstaad to Spiez or Bern on a daily or weekly basis will also profit from the change. Other revonvations have to be finished first, though, so commuters and tourists need to be patient. The system should be ready by 2019.
